Silence from the Coolamon (Indanthrone Blue, Azo Orange & Arylide Yellow)

Oil on Masonite

113 x 123 x 4 cm.

I was unprepared for the inner conflict I felt on a residency at John Glovers Patterdale Farm, in witakina country. Essentially, an identity crisis, exposing my cultural privilege imposed on this ancient land.

I became aware of a deep-seated sorrow and exhaustion of the earth, its groan.

By only using three colours, I aim to symbolically depict the bias, dwindling resources and resilience of both our country and identity, capturing the silent lament from the Coolamon.

This painting came out of month-long residency at John Glovers Patterdale Farm, compliments of Carol Westmore and Arts Tasmania.
